Best Form of Cardio for Fat Loss? HIIT!

What is HIIT? High Intensity Interval Training

When most people think about cardio, they think of jogging for 30 minutes or hitting the treadmill for 45. LISS or “Low Intesnsity Steady State” cardio has been popular for decades and will help you burn fat. The problem? LISS isn’t nearly as effective or efficient at burning fat as HIIT.

HIIT is short periods of intense cardio followed by brief periods of recovery over a time period. Most HIIT workouts are less than 20 minutes. These types of workouts have various benefits including:

  • Burns more calories per minute
  • Retains more muscle
  • Burns fat after workout (EPOC)
  • Get your workout done faster!

Remember, High Intensity means different things to different people. You may not be able to run as fast as me for 60 seconds straight, but the goal is to have your lungs and heart pumping in a similar fashion, no matter the speed. I don’t care if you run at 10mph, or 2mph, as long as you are giving it your all!

Sample HIIT Workout:

Walk 30 seconds

Jog 30 seconds

Sprint 30 seconds

Repeat 10 times.
